An Ikeja high court has upheld the ban on the wearing of hijab in all government schools in Lagos state.
justice Modupe dismissed the suit instituted against Lagos state government by two twelve-year old gilrs under the aegis of muslim student of Nigeria, Lagos state unit.
Earlier on, the Lagos state government had banned the use of hijab,on the arguement that it's not part of the school's uniform for people'
Following the ban the affected pupils filled the suit on the 27th of may 2013 seeking redress and asked the court to declare the ban as violation of their rights to freedom of thought, religion and education.
According to the judge, the ban does not violate section 38 and 42 of the 1999 constitution as claimed by the plaintiffs.
